January

  • Apply Winter fertiliser to strengthen roots and kill moss

February

  • Keep off frosty or waterlogged grass to avoid damage
  • Begin edging lawns to tidy up the appearance.
  • Apply moss killer if moss is a problem.

March

  • Start mowing regularly as grass begins to grow (set mower to a higher height).
  • Aerate the lawn if it’s compacted to improve drainage.
  • Apply a spring fertilizer to encourage growth.
  • Reseed bare patches if the soil is warm enough.

April

  • Mow weekly, lowering the mower height gradually.
  • Apply a Spring fertiliser to boost growth and colour.
  • Scarify (rake) the lawn to remove thatch and moss.

May

  • Mow more frequently (every 5–7 days).
  • Water deeply once per week during dry spells to prevent stress.
  • Treat weeds with spot treatments if they persist.

June

  • Mow regularly, keeping the height slightly higher during hot weather.
  • Water early in the morning or late evening if there’s a drought.
  • Apply Summer fertiliser

July

  • Keep mowing but avoid cutting grass too short to prevent heat stress.
  • Water deeply once s week instead of shallow daily watering.

August

  • Continue mowing and watering as needed.

  • Start planning for autumn maintenance, including aeration and overseeding.

September

  • Scarify and aerate the lawn to reduce thatch and improve drainage.
  • Overseed thin areas to thicken the grass.
  • Apply an autumn fertilizer with high potassium for root strength.

October

  • Reduce mowing frequency and increase the height of the mower
